When the Cincinnati Bengals moved training camp back to Cincinnati, Head Groundskeeper Darian Daily rebuilt the practice fields with a new 80-10-10 root zone blend of sand, soil and Profile® Porous Ceramics and Patriot Bermuda Grass sod. The upgraded fields were constructed in less than two months and delivered excellent water infiltration, drainage and root health, even in high-traffic fan and practice areas. Ongoing use of Profile Porous Ceramics through DryJect™ aerification and topdressing supports long-term field stability, playability and wear resistance during intense summer training.
Key Points
- Original Bluegrass/Ryegrass practice fields were ravaged by Summer Patch with shallow roots, leaving them unusable for late July and early August training camp.
- The Motz Group installed an 80-10-10 root zone mix of sand, soil and Profile Porous Ceramics and sodded with Patriot Bermuda, completing construction between April 23 and June 8, 2012.
- The new and existing Bermudagrass fields showed strong water infiltration and percolation, maintaining healthy roots and dependable footing even in high-traffic areas and late-season conditions.
- Annual maintenance includes aerification every three weeks through April and June, verti-cutting in spring, DryJect treatment with Profile Porous Ceramics, and sand topdressing every two weeks.
