Safety Data Sheet (SDS) page for “SAF 816” by PROFILE Products, LLC.

SAF 816 is a heat treated montmorillonite clay mineral supplied as brown to buff-colored granular particles with negligible odor. The product contains up to 5% crystalline silica (quartz) and is classified as causing respiratory irritation, with crystalline silica known to cause silicosis and identified as a carcinogen by certain agencies. Recommended precautions include avoiding breathing dust, using appropriate respirators and eye protection when exposure limits may be exceeded, and storing the product in a dry area. Adverse effects would not be expected from normal use when dust levels remain below recommended exposure limits. SAF 816 is non-flammable, stable under normal conditions, and non-hazardous for air, sea and road freight.

  • Heat treated montmorillonite clay mineral in brown to buff-colored granular form with negligible odor and bulk density of 36 lbs/cubic ft.
  • Contains 3–5% silica, crystalline quartz (CAS 14808607); crystalline silica is known to cause silicosis and is listed as a carcinogen by IARC and NTP, with this product classified as “May cause respiratory irritation.”
  • Exposure controls include avoiding breathing dust, using NIOSH-approved dust respirators if Permissible Exposure Limits are exceeded, providing local exhaust ventilation, and using tight-fitting goggles in high dust concentrations.
