Residential Development Case Study

Aerial view of a suburban neighborhood with houses, streets, sidewalks, green areas, and some ongoing construction in one section. Trees and landscaped yards are visible throughout the community.

Many residential developments rely on sod for quick lawns, but it can be expensive and may lead to poor root development when soils lack organic matter. This project used ProGanics®, Profile’s Biotic Soil Media™, as a topsoil alternative with hydraulically applied mulch to stabilize the site, protect seed and support germination. Germination began about 10 days after a June 26 installation, with thick, lush turf established by August 28—about 63 days. The approach provides an affordable way to go from barren soil to full vegetation and can help save money versus using sod.

Key Points

  • Sod can be expensive and may result in poor root development when soils lack sufficient organic matter.
  • ProGanics®, Profile’s Biotic Soil Media™, serves as a topsoil alternative that provides organic matter and initiates vegetation establishment for full, healthy lawns.
  • Hydraulically applied mulch helps protect seed, stabilize the site from erosion, absorb and transfer water, and reduce typical irrigation requirements associated with sod.
  • Installation on June 26 led to germination in about 10 days and thick, lush grass by August 28—in just 63 days.
