West Orange Solar Farm Case Study

In historic Orange, Massachusetts, Standard Solar committed to maintaining vegetative grass coverage on 80 percent of a 77-acre solar farm to help the site blend with surrounding natural views and wildlife. After initial seeding attempts failed, Bores Property Services worked with Profile® Products, which prescribed soil amendments, the ProFlex™ System on steeper slopes, and ProGanics® DUAL™ on flatter areas, paired with Vegetator® Cool Season seed mix. This combination provided organic matter, erosion control and fast-germinating, long-term vegetation that does not require continued site maintenance or fertilizations, allowing the solar array to become a picturesque, low-maintenance installation.

Key Points

  • Standard Solar needed to revegetate 77 acres of a highly visible solar farm while keeping 80 percent grass coverage to preserve historic, wildlife-rich views.
  • Profile’s ProFlex™ System, combining ProGanics® Biotic Soil Media and Flexterra® HP-FGM®, was applied on steeper slopes to supply organic matter and high-performing erosion control.
  • ProGanics® DUAL™ and Vegetator® Cool Season seed mix were used on flatter areas to stabilize the site and create a permanent vegetative cover without continued site maintenance or fertilizations.
  • The resulting vegetation exceeded expectations, leaving the solar site picturesque and providing a long-lasting, low-maintenance solution.
