Canadian Natural Resources Ltd. worked with Pineview Vegetation Management to restore a 1 hectare portion of the Northeast BC Pipeline right-of-way near Fort St. John using Flexterra® High Performance-Flexible Growth Medium® instead of coir mat blankets. Hydraulically applied Flexterra® HP-FGM®, combined with AquaGel® and Northeast Dryland Seed Mix, was prescribed to hold seed and soil, promote rapid germination and stabilize steep slopes and streambanks. The solution reduced labor, cutting installation to two days and lowering cost to $10,500 per hectare while delivering thick, long-lasting vegetation and erosion control proven effective at the three-year milestone.
Key Points
- Canadian Natural Resources Ltd. needed to rapidly revegetate 1 hectare (2.5 ac) of steep pipeline right-of-way slopes and streambanks to prevent erosion and sediment runoff in riparian areas.
- Pineview Vegetation Management and Profile® Products prescribed hydraulically applied, environmentally friendly Flexterra® HP-FGM® at 2,800 kg/ha (2,500 lb/ac) with AquaGel to hold seed and soil and promote rapid germination.
- Flexterra® HP-FGM® is proven to be 99 percent effective, bonding directly to the soil and producing greater biomass than rolled blankets or other hydraulically applied erosion control products.
- Compared to coconut blankets, the Flexterra® application cost $10,500 per hectare versus $22,000 and took two days instead of seven, while supporting sustainable native vegetation thriving three years after installation.
